August 24, (THEWILL) –Â A former General Secretary of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Musa Amadu, has announced his desire to succeed Amaju Pinnick, the Federation’s outgoing president, promising to increase the country’s prominence in international football if elected.
Speaking at a press conference to announce his plans in Abuja on Tuesday, Amadu claimed he would use his contacts and knowledge to help revive Nigerian football and improve the country’s overall declining performances, by providing a long-term solution that would benefit all parties involved, including players, operators, fans, etc.
In his words: “We want to build an image of Nigerian football that will make the Nigerian person walk tall in the street anywhere in the world and be referred to as ‘the guy or lady who comes from that football country where everything is well-run.
“We want to create opportunities for people who hitherto would not have had a chance to be anywhere near a football field – job opportunities that will take our youth off the streets, football opportunities that will empower every sector of our society and create gainful employment.”
The public announcement of Amadu, who left the NFF about eight years ago, was presided over by Ikeddy Isiguzo and attended by a number of notable figures from the past and present of football, including Victor Ikpeba, Emmanuel Babayaro, and Dr Tijani Yusuf, a former NFA secretary general, as well as former NFA chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima.
