November 01, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have officially appointed Ruben Amorim as their new manager, with the 39-year-old Portuguese coach signing a contract until 2027. The club finalised the deal with Sporting CP by paying a €10 million termination clause, with an additional €1 million in compensation for notice period requirements.
Amorim will transition to his new role after the international break, completing crucial matches with Sporting against Estrela da Amadora, Manchester City in the Champions League, and SC Braga. His entire coaching staff, including Emanuel Ferro, Adelio Candido, Carlos Fernandes, and Paulo Barreira, will accompany him to Manchester United.
The new manager brings significant experience from Portuguese football, having won two championships, two cups, and a Super Cup during his tenure at Sporting. This marks his first international coaching assignment after successful periods at Casa Pia, SC Braga, and Sporting CP since 2018.
Manchester United currently face significant challenges, sitting 14th in the English Premier League with 11 points and struggling in European competitions. The club hopes Amorim will reinvigorate their performance after an extended period without EPL success since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
Amorim’s first match is anticipated to be an away game against Ipswich Town, with his Old Trafford debut scheduled for a UEFA Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt on 28 November.
