August 26, (THEWILL) – After guiding Real Madrid to a La Liga and Champions League double last season, Carlo Ancelotti has been named the UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year.
Following an 18-month stint with Everton, the legendary Italian returned to the Santiago Bernabeu, and despite there being little fanfare at the beginning of his second reign, he proved all sceptics wrong by leading Los Blancos to victories in both of the competition’s top prizes, as well as the Supercopa de Espana.
To win the award, Ancelotti defeated Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool.
With a valiant 1-0 victory over Liverpool in Paris in May, Real Madrid won the title of European Champions for a record 14th time. Along the road, they impressively eliminated PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City, eliminating each team in an increasingly dramatic manner and solidifying their reputation as the rulers of the continent.
After failing to win La Liga during his first season at Real Madrid, Ancelotti became the first manager in history to win all five of Europe’s main leagues. With a decisive 13-point victory, Los Blancos reclaimed the Spanish championship from their local rivals, Atletico Madrid.
