July 03, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the signing of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from Belgian outfit, Anderlecht, the English Premier League club announced on Monday.
The financial details of the five-year contract were not disclosed, however, reports from British media suggest that Albion paid approximately £16 million to obtain the 20-year-old’s services. Verbruggen, who was named Anderlecht’s player of the season, started his professional career at NAC Breda in the Netherlands before joining Anderlecht in 2020.
Brighton coach, Roberto De Zerbi, expressed his confidence in Verbruggen’s ability to adapt to the club’s style of play, which places great emphasis on building from the back. De Zerbi remarked: “He is accustomed to a style of football that resembles ours, and he will seamlessly integrate into our squad.” The coach also pointed to the young goalkeeper’s potential, believing that he has the capability to become a crucial player for the club in the years to come.
Verbruggen becomes Brighton’s fourth signing during the current transfer window, joining the ranks of Joao Pedro from Watford, Germany midfielder, Mahmoud Dahoud from Borussia Dortmund, and James Milner from Liverpool. The team finished sixth in the EPL last season, earning a spot in the upcoming UEFA Europa League competition.
