SAN FRANCISCO, October 03, (THEWILL) – An Associated Airline plane Thursday morning crashed near the Lagos airport in Ikeja.
THEWILL gathered that the plane was on its way to Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Casualty figures are not clear as at the time of filing this report.
UPDATE 1:
Aviation sources have told THEWILL that the plane was on a charter service and was carrying the family of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, whose burial has been slated for this weekend.
The aviation Ministry is expected to issue a statement soon.

Agagu’s Corpse Was On The Ill-Fated Aircraft
THEWILL has confirmed that the body of the deceased former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu was on board the Associated Airline plane that crashed a few minutes after taking off at the Lagos airport.
The deceased politician’s family was also on the plane as well as close family friends, whose identities THEWILL is still trying to confirm.
THEWILL source at the site of the crash saw emergency officials evacuating the casket that the deceased politician was placed in. The officials opened the casket and saw the deceased politician inside.
At least dead 20 lifeless bodies of victims of the crash have been taken to the government owned hospital in Ikeja.
UPDATE 3:
Nigerian emergency agency has said 9 persons were killed in the crash while 5 persons survived with serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses said the plane was flying so low before it crashed into an area close to where aviation jet fuels are stored.
