June 21, (THEWILL) – Arsenal has finalised the £30 million (€35 million) signing of Fabio Vieira from Porto, with £4.2 million (€5 million) in add-ons.
Mikel Arteta has been linked with a number of transfer targets as Arsenal aim to bolster their squad following their failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Youri Tielemans and Vitinha have been mentioned as possible additions to Arsenal’s midfield, which currently has Granit Xhaka, Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, and Mohamed Elneny.
Arsenal, on the other hand, has decided to sign Vitinha’s Porto teammate Vieira on a long-term contract, as the club officially revealed on Tuesday. Speaking at the reveal, Arteta said: “I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent.
“Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.”
Vieira has been brought in to provide Arteta with a new creative outlet in the future, as the 22-year-old has the most assists among Porto players in the 2021/2022 Primeira Liga season. In his 27 games, the midfielder also scored six league goals and placed joint-fifth in the league for chances created (34).
As Arsenal try to improve on their fifth-place finish in the Premier League, Arteta will be hoping Vieira can provide capable backup to the likes of Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Eddie Nketiah.
