Arsenal Maintain Perfect Start To Season In 2-1 Victory Over Aston Villa

September 01, (THEWILL) – Arsenal defeated Aston Villa 2-1 with a winning goal from Gabriel Martinelli, to maintain their unblemished English Premier League record so far this season.

At their Emirates Stadium, Douglas Luiz’s straight goal from a corner, his second such goal this season, cancelled his compatriot, Gabriel Jesus’ opening goal for the Gunners.

Although former Arsenal keeper, Emiliano Martinez, made several excellent saves, the Argentine was at fault for the two goals from Arsenal’s pair of Brazilian forwards, Jesus and Martinelli, the latter of which came three minutes after Villa tied the score at 1-1 in the second half.

Martinez flinched at Martinelli’s shot and the hand he stretched to stop the ball was not enough to keep the hosts from another three points. The victory saw Arsenal start a top-flight season with five straight victories for just the fourth time in their history.

Next up for Arsenal in the Premier League is an away match at Manchester United on Sunday. Before then, on Saturday, Villa will play host to defending champions, Manchester City.
