May 11, (THEWILL) – Arsenal has been hit with a major setback in their pursuit of the English Premier League title, as defenders – William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko, have been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Both players have been instrumental in Arsenal’s push for their first top-flight title in nearly two decades. Saliba suffered a back injury during the UEFA Europa League defeat to Sporting Lisbon in March, while Zinchenko was forced off the field with a calf issue during Sunday’s win over Newcastle United.
Although neither player will require surgery, their injuries are significant enough to keep them out of action for the rest of the campaign. Saliba has been absent for Arsenal’s last eight matches, having played 33 times across all competitions before his injury. Kieran Tierney will replace Zinchenko in the team, with Rob Holding and Jakub Kiwior also competing for a spot in central defense.
