June 10, (THEWILL) – Aston Villa have officially announced the impending acquisition of Youri Tielemans on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with Leicester City later this summer.
The talented Belgium international opted not to renew his deal with Leicester, as the club faced relegation to the Championship. Aston Villa, on the other hand, will be competing in the Europa Conference League after a remarkable turnaround mid-season, guided by newly appointed manager, Unai Emery.
A statement released by the club read: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce that the club has reached an agreement to sign Youri Tielemans. The Belgian international will officially become a Villan on July 1 after his contract with Leicester City has expired.”
Born as a promising talent in the ranks of Anderlecht, Tielemans initially joined Leicester City on a loan deal from Monaco in 2019, with the move becoming permanent later that year. Throughout his time at Leicester, the 26-year-old midfielder showcased his skills, making a total of 195 appearances for the club.
Notably, Tielemans played a crucial role in the club’s victorious FA Cup campaign in 2021, where he scored the iconic winning goal in the 1-0 final triumph over Chelsea. While Tielemans and his Leicester teammates displayed impressive performances under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers, their form suffered in the recent season leading to their eventual relegation.
