November 26, (THEWILL) – Aston Villa came from behind to claim a thrilling 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, vaulting themselves into the English Premier League’s top four. Unai Emery’s side showed resilience after going 1-0 down in the first half to Giovani Lo Celso’s strike, equalising through Pau Torres’ header in the 52nd minute. The winner came in the 61st from Ollie Watkins, inflicting a third straight league defeat on Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs.
With the win, Villa extended their near-perfect recent form to eight wins from their last 10 matches. They now sit fourth in the table ahead of Sunday’s later games, continuing their impressive turnaround under Emery. By contrast, Spurs seem to be faltering in their top-four push after a fast start under Postecoglou this season.
The match saw end-to-end action throughout, with both sides creating numerous chances. Spurs were left to rue their profligacy in front of goal, while Villa showed a killer instinct to capitalise on their opportunities.
