December 24, (THEWILL) – At the 2021 Athletic Heat Track N Field Awards, Enoch Adegoke and Olympic medalist Ese Brume were named male and female winners of the Senior Athlete of the Year award.
With his latest achievement at the Ebonylife Place on Victoria Island, Adegoke became the only athlete to win the Athletic Heat Award in every category for which he has been nominated since the inaugural edition in 2017.
He earned the Youth Athlete of the Year title in 2017, followed by the Junior Athlete of the Year award in 2018 and 2019, and finally the Senior Athlete of the Year award in 2019.
He was nominated alongside Divine Oduduru and Chukwebuka Enekwechi, who came in second and third, respectively.
In his reaction to the honour, Adegoke, the Olympic 100m Finalist showed his appreciation to the organisers: “It’s been an eventful 2021. I feel grateful to God for having my performances get recognized and awarded. Thanks to Athletic Heat for this wonderful initiative. God bless.”
This was Ese Brume’s second year as Female Senior Athlete of the Year, with Diamond League Winner Tobi Amusan and Tokyo Olympic semifinalist Grace Nwokocha coming in second and third, respectively. She won it for the first time in 2019 after she took bronze in the IAAF World Championships in the Long Jump.
Favour Ofili, the African Indoor and National U20 record holder, was named Female Under-20 Athlete of the Year and Next-Rated Athlete of the Year at the event, while Udodi Onwuzurike, the World Junior 200m champion, was named Male Under-20 Athlete of the Year and Breakout Athlete of the Year.
Dare Popoola of “Making of Champions” was named Track and Field Writer of the Year, while Sarah Olamide was named Social Media Personality of the Year.
Dr Solomon Alao, Coach Edirin Owivri, Coach Mavuah Esabunor, Mr Olalekan Oyinlola of Leks Sports NG, Mr Austin Orogun, and Mr Isaac Chinedu of the Delta State Sports Commission received special recognition for their contributions to Track and Field in Nigeria in their various roles and capacities.
The event was attended by the aristocracy of Nigerian track and field sports, invited guests, as well as the nominated athletes’ family and friends.
The Lagos State Sports Commission and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria endorsed the event, which was sponsored by Ebonylife Place, MTN, Yesir Foundation, Maxout Fitness, Gooddeeds, Linkfric, and WeShootSports.
