BEVERLY HILLS, September 19, (THEWILL) –Â Workers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on Tuesday morning disrupted activities at the International Airport as they protest the proposed concession of the airport and the Airport, Abuja.
Aviation unions and workers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, on Tuesday staged a protest to express their disapproval over plans by government to concession the Murtala Muhammed and Nnamdi Azikwe airports in Lagos and Abuja.
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, had, last Monday, announced that the Federal Executive Council had agreed to the concession of the Murtala Muhammed Internationa Airport, Lagos; and Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.
On Tuesday morning, scores of FAAN workers stormed the Freedom Square leading to the entrance of the authority’s headquarters to draw attention to what they described as fraudulent selling of the airports to people who are unknown to workers.
The protest was led by the Joint Action Committee, JAC, with members drawn from: Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, ANAP, National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, and the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN.
“Sequel to the pronouncement made by the Vice- President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on the approval of the concessioning of Lagos and Abuja international airports, the unions urge all staff to remain calm as we mobilize for the mother of all rallies.
“By this bulletin, we urge all FAAN workers to come out en masse to decide our fate as our position still remains no to concession,” read an in-house bulletin issued by the JAC.
