October 19, (THEWILL) – An Everton player arrested in July on suspicion of child sex offences has had his bail period increased. The footballer’s bail has now been extended until January 16, 2022, according to the Greater Manchester Police Department.
As THEWILL previously reported, the unnamed player was arrested on July 16, but has been out on bail since July 23, with no further information available until now.
Everton released a statement in July, just weeks after Rafa Benitez was appointed manager.
The statement read: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation. The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”
Everton were dealt a major setback ahead of the new season when the allegations were made public. The news also stunned the football world, particularly English Premier League players, staff, and fans.
