June 26, (THEWILL) – Welsh forward, Gareth Bale, has confirmed that he will be joining Los Angeles FC in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Bale left Real Madrid in the early summer after making more than 250 appearances and winning numerous prestigious titles there, including five UEFA Champions League Cups. Although initially linked to MLS side, DC United, Bale was also recently approached by his home team, Cardiff City.
The 32-year-old decided to play in the MLS instead, but will represent LAFC in black and gold, rather than the red and black of DCU. He will make his home at the Banc of California Stadium upon the opening of the MLS Secondary Transfer Window in July.
Interestingly, Bale will not occupy one of LAFC’s three Designated Player slots and will instead sign a 12-month contract with an additional 18-month option. The Welshman was pleased to let the word out himself when he uploaded a video to social media on Saturday night, while sporting a LAFC jersey and hat with the caption, “See you soon, Los Angeles.”
It is another experienced addition to the club’s lineup as Bale and renowned Italian center-back, Giorgio Chiellini, will join Steve Cherudolo’s squad. Both players are eligible to make their LAFC debuts on July 8 against El Trafico rivals, the LA Galaxy.
