July 09, (THEWILL) – Barcelona Femeni forward, Asisat Oshoala, who has been nominated for the prestigious Sócrates Ballon d’Or Award for her humanitarian contributions, has reflected on the impact of her football academy.
The Asisat Oshoala Academy (AOA), established in Nigeria, aims to provide young girls with access to high-quality football training and life skills education, empowering them to become role models in their communities.
Speaking about the Academy’s goal of helping girls realise that their dreams are achievable, Oshoala was excited about its progress. She also revealed that she did not have a similar opportunity growing up, emphasising the importance of changing the mindset of these young footballers and guiding them towards success.
The AOA has made significant strides in its first year of operation, with plans to commence its second season soon. Oshoala, who has earned a Ballon d’Or nomination due to the academy’s success, said: “I think these kids, the most important thing is to change their mindset and make them understand that what they have in their head is actually achievable, and they just need to stay focused and work hard and show them the right path to success.”
