September 24, (THEWILL) – In La Liga matchday five fixture between Cadiz and Barcelona, the Catalan club manager Ronald Koeman was unhappy with the refereeing of Carlos del Cerro Grande against his side. Barcelona drew with the Andalusians and Koeman was sent to the stands in the final stages, as THEWILL reported.
Grande had had enough of Koeman’s protesting of his decisions especially about what happened when Sergio Busquets kicked an extra ball that was on the pitch towards Salvi, and sent the Dutchman off the dugout.
Reflecting on the refereeing report, Koeman had yelled: “Hey, the referee has to blow, the referee has to blow, dammit, he has to blow!” And when the Barca manager refused to be quietened after being warned by the fourth official about his protests, the red cad was issued against him.
Koeman is looking at the possibility of a two-game ban. According to the regulations, the maximum penalty is one month, although the statutes allow the possibility of “two to three games.” If the minimum penalty applies, the manager will remain in the stands against Levante and Atletico Madrid.
However, because the red card was issued in a La Liga game, Koeman will be in the dugout for Barca’s UEFA Champions League Group E matchday 2 fixture against Benfica in midweek.
The Dutch manager risked being in more trouble when in a post-match press conference he said “In this country they send you off for nothing.”
