May 11, (THEWILL) – During the Tuesday La Liga tie between Barcelona and Celta Vigo, defender Ronald Araujo collided with teammate, Gavi and collapsed to the ground from a concussion, causing anxiety at Camp Nou, but updates from the club have quelled fears for the player’s condition.
The Catalan giants were too strong for their opponents on the night, defeating Celta 3-1. Barcelona took a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute thanks to a Memphis Depay strike and a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace. But, Celta got a goal back through Iago Aspas.
Despite Barcelona’s crucial victory, Araujo’s concussion was the focus of attention as an ambulance had to be brought onto the pitch to quickly take him to the hospital for tests.
However, on Wednesday morning, Barca released an update from their verified English Twitter account, which read: “[MEDICAL NEWS] Complementary tests on first-team player Ronald Araujo have been successful and he has been discharged from the hospital. The evolution will mark his availability.”
It was comforting for fans of La Blaugrana given the contributions Araujo has made to the team’s current form and how his performances have been applauded in the time that the club has climbed all the way to its second place and guaranteed appearance at next season’s UEFA Champions League.
