November 16, (THEWILL) – The three-game ban imposed on Robert Lewandowski for a gesture he made following his red card against Osasuna will be appealed, Barcelona have confirmed.
THEWILL recalls that Lewandowski was given two yellow cards by referee Gil Manzano, which are usually grounds for a one-game suspension, but he was also the subject of an investigation for gesturing as he left the field.
Although others have attempted to defend Lewandowski and provide a different justification for his conduct, the general consensus was that the Poland striker’s gesture was hinting that there was something ‘fishy’ about the official.
He was slammed with a three-game ban after being found guilty of doubting the integrity of the referee. He is set to miss matches against Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, and Real Betis going forward, but Barcelona has stated that they would appeal the decision.
A club statement read: “FC Barcelona will put their case to the Appeals Committee in view of the three game ban handed out to Robert Lewandowski by the Disciplinary Committee. The Polish striker received the suspension after being sent off for a second bookable offence in the 2-1 win over Osasuna in Pamplona in La Liga.”
