March 25, (THEWILL) – Barcelona Femeni kept their perfect winning run in the league going as they overcame Real Madrid Femenino 1-0 in the latest edition of El Clásico.

A penalty by Fridolina Rolfö sealed the three points, making it 23 wins in 23 games this season in the league. Barça were wearing the special edition Rosalía Motomami home shirt, with a record crowd of 5569 at the Estadí Johan Cruyff to witness the match.

The first half was somewhat of a slow burner, with Barca taking control of the game as it went on without really creating any clear-cut chances to test Maria Rodriguez in the Real Madrid goal. There were chances to score on both sides but they all went begging and the match went into the interval without a goal.

Barca remained in control after the restart, and coach Jonatan Giráldez brought on Keira Walsh, Asisat Oshoala and Graham Hansen in the 60th minute to add some fresh legs and attacking depth, with Barca increasingly swarming the final third to try to make the breakthrough. Substitute Del Castillo pulled down Paralluelo inside the box after a melee and a penalty was awarded, which Rolfö scored.

The victory in the Clásico takes Barca’s winning streak to 23 games this season in the league. Their next challenge is in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they will face Manchester City.
