December 22, (THEWILL) – Barcelona and Manchester City have agreed to a deal worth up to £55 million to bring Ferran Torres to Catalonia.

The Spanish club will pay an initial fee of £46.7 million (€55 million) plus £8.5 million (€10 million) in add-ons. Some £5.9 million (€7 million) of the add-ons are thought to be almost certain.

City will have profited at least £27 million (€32 million) on a player they paid Valencia roughly £20 million (€23 million) for in 2020. Due to Torres’ limited time at the Etihad, City have not paid any of the agreed-upon add-ons.

Torres is regarded as one of Spain’s emerging stars, and Barcelona will have funds to spend in January after getting a large investment via a bank loan.

Barca’s ties to City are strong as well; City’s leaders such as Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano formerly worked for Barca president Joan Laporta during his first tenure as President at the club. City, who will rather keep Raheem Sterling, who has just returned to his finest form in a City shirt, are willing to let Torres go.

The 21-year-old has only featured in the Premier League four times this season, scoring twice, and in the Champions League once. He has been out since October due to a foot injury he sustained while on international duty with Spain.
