October 14, (THEWILL) — Barcelona will be without star striker Robert Lewandowski for the upcoming Clasico after the club confirmed the Polish forward has sustained a hamstring injury.
The 37-year-old suffered the problem during Poland’s World Cup qualifier against Lithuania on Sunday.
The Spanish champions released a statement on Tuesday revealing Lewandowski has a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of his left thigh.
Spanish media reports suggest the injury could keep him out of action for between four and six weeks, ruling him out of several crucial fixtures.
The forward will miss Barcelona’s trip to face La Liga leaders Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on October 26.
He is also expected to be absent for UEFA Champions League encounters with Olympiakos and Club Brugge, alongside other domestic matches during his recovery period.
Goalkeeper Joan Garcia and playmaker Dani Olmo are also expected to miss El Clásico, although teenage winger Lamine Yamal returned to training on Monday following a groin problem.
Ferran Torres was sent home from Spain duty due to muscular discomfort but Barcelona confirmed on Monday that he has not suffered an injury.
Torres has already deputised in the starting role on multiple occasions this season, with Lewandowski frequently used from the bench.
The Spanish international’s availability will prove vital for Barcelona during the Polish striker’s spell on the sidelines.
