April 19, (THEWILL)- The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has imposed a fine of €25,000 on Barcelona for the racist behaviour exhibited by their fans during a Champions League quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain.
The incident occurred during the first leg of the tie, which took place at the Parc des Princes on April 10. According to reports, two Barcelona supporters were questioned by the Paris police after videos surfaced on social media, showing one individual making monkey noises and another performing Nazi salutes.
As a result of the incident, UEFA has also banned Barcelona from selling tickets to their away supporters for their next European competition match. However, this punishment is currently suspended for a probationary period of one year, starting from the date of the decision.
Barcelona lost the tie 6-4 on aggregate, with Paris Saint-Germain securing a 4-1 victory in the second leg on Tuesday. UEFA’s decision to take disciplinary action against Barcelona highlights the organisation’s commitment to addressing issues of racism and discrimination within the sport.
