September 16, (THEWILL) – Barcelona Femini made a winning start to their Liga F season with a 2-0 victory over Madrid CFF at the Estadio Fernando Torres on Saturday with Asisat Oshoala coming off the bench to start the season with a goal.

The blaugranes were dominant from the off, with captain Alexia Putellas making her 400th appearance for the club. Summer signing Ona Battle also made her competitive debut in the left back position. Barca had several chances to score in the first half, with Putellas heading wide on a number of occasions. The breakthrough eventually came in the 40th minute when Graham Hansen finishing from close range.

Madrid CFF came out more strongly after the break, but Barca were still the better side. Putellas had a chance to score early in the second half, but her header glanced wide of the post. The visitors finally sealed the win in the 84th minute when Battle crossed for Oshoala to slot the ball home.

The Nigerian forward had only been on the pitch for a few minutes, but she made her impact felt immediately. The win was a perfect start to the season for Barca, who are the defending champions. They will now be looking to build on this momentum and challenge for the title again this year.
