April 03, (THEWILL) – Lyon shocked Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes with a 1-0 win, marking PSG’s second consecutive home defeat and injecting some much-needed excitement into the Ligue 1 title race.
It was the first time PSG lost back-to-back league games since September 2020 and the scoreline could have been a lot more embarrassing that the one-goal loss.
The match was marked by two penalty incidents in the first half: one that Alexandre Lacazette missed for Lyon, and one that PSG were denied for an apparent handball. Bradley Barcola scored the game-winning goal for Lyon early in the second half, taking advantage of a Dejan Lovren handball that went unpunished.
Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi had opportunities to score for PSG in the first half, but it was Lyon, who ultimately came out on top, handing PSG their third defeat in their last four league games.
PSG will look to bounce back when they face Nice on Saturday. Lyon, meanwhile, are away at Nantes on Wednesday, for the semi-finals of the Coupe De France.
