September 26, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over third-tier Preussen Munster in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday night.
Eric Choupo-Moting opened the scoring for Bayern after just 8 minutes, pouncing on a cross from Mathys Tel to give the Bundesliga champions the lead. Despite an early injury to Serge Gnabry, Bayern continued to dominate and doubled their advantage through Konrad Laimer five minutes before half-time. Youngster Frans Kratzig grabbed his first goal for the club on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-0.
Although Harry Kane was rested, Bayern still had too much quality for their lower-league opponents. Thomas Tuchel’s side created numerous chances to extend their lead, with Jamal Musiala and Choupo-Moting both going close. Home keeper Johannes Schenk produced some excellent saves to keep the score down.
Munster battled hard but rarely threatened the Bayern goal, with their best chance falling to substitute Joel Grodowski late on. However, it was Bayern who rounded off the scoring when Mathys Tel netted five minutes from time. A comfortable opening win for Bayern, who eased through to the next round of the cup.
While Munster return to Liga action against MDV Duisburg on Saturday, Bayern travel to the Red Bull Arena to take on RB Leipzig on the same day.
