August 27, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich continued their strong start to the Bundesliga season with a convincing 3-1 win over Augsburg at the Allianz Arena on Sunday with Harry Kane adding to his tally
The Bavarian giants controlled proceedings from the outset against their regional rivals, who sat back and looked to counter. An own goal gave Bayern a 1-0 halftime lead before Harry Kane doubled their lead from the penalty spot. Kane added a third after the break to put the result beyond doubt, with Augsburg pulling one back through Dion Beljo late on.
The match was played without Bayern’s bright young star Jamal Musiala, who suffered an injury in training during the week as THEWILL reported. His absence was not felt however as Bayern bossed possession and created numerous chances. It was slightly against the run of play when Leroy Sane’s shot took a huge deflection and bobbled in via the post. Kane then confidently converted a penalty just before the break to double the lead after a handball was given against Augsburg.
After the interval, Bayern remained in control and Kane should have added a second only to lift his shot over the bar. The Englishman soon made amends though, connecting with a pinpoint Alphonso Davies cross to beat the keeper. Augsburg got a consolation through substitute Beljo late on but it did little to take the gloss off a dominant Bayern performance.
Manager, Thomas Tuchel, will be delighted with the way his new charges dispatched their regional rivals. With two wins from two and seven goals scored, it has been an extremely promising start from Bayern. On Saturday, they travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach hoping to continue their good form while Augsburg welcome VfL Bochum to the WWK Arena on the same day.
