November 12, (THEWILL) – Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, have been ordered to pay a substantial €150,000 fine by the German Football Federation (DFB) following fan unrest during their recent German Cup victory over SSV Ulm.
The incident occurred in the 46th minute of Bayern’s 4-0 win on August 16, when spectators in the away end ignited at least 70 flares and four firework batteries. The pyrotechnics were directed towards the pitch, forcing a three-minute interruption due to the heavy smoke that engulfed the stadium.
In a statement, the DFB outlined the severity of the supporters’ actions, noting that “some of these were directed toward the pitch, forcing a roughly three-minute interruption in the game due to heavy smoke.” Bayern have accepted the governing body’s ruling and sanction.
The Bundesliga leading side will be permitted to allocate up to €50,000 of the fine towards security or violence prevention measures, provided they furnish the DFB with evidence of such spending by June 30, 2025.
Bayern’s focus will now shift to their last-16 German Cup tie against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen on December 3, as Vincent Kompany’s side aim to progress in the competition.
