April 21, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich has announced the signing of Anthony Barry, as part of Thomas Tuchel’s new backroom team.
Barry joined Chelsea in 2020 and has since gained a reputation on an international level, working closely with Tuchel during the German’s tenure as Chelsea’s manager. Tuchel expressed his desire to reunite with Barry shortly after his appointment at Bayern earlier this year, and the move was eventually agreed upon in March.
Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic expressed his delight at the signing, stating that Barry “fits in perfectly with FC Bayern.” Bayern has agreed to a deal that could see Chelsea earn up to €1m if all add-ons are met. Barry’s departure from Chelsea comes as the club prepares to revamp their backroom staff with the appointment of a new permanent manager.
Frank Lampard will remain in temporary charge of Chelsea until the end of the current campaign, with Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino among the leading contenders for the role. Additionally, the club has been impressed with the work Vincent Kompany has done with Burnley. As Bayern solidifies its backroom team with the addition of Barry, the future of Chelsea’s managerial staff remains uncertain.
