September 02, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Belgian striker, Divock Origi, on a season-long loan from Serie A side, AC Milan.
The deal was finalised on deadline day as the English Premier League side look to add firepower upfront. The 28-year-old returns to England after spending eight years with Liverpool, where he scored 41 goals in 175 appearances and helped the Reds win the UEFA Champions League in 2019.
Origi brings a wealth of experience to Forest having also played in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg and making over 30 appearances for the Belgian national team. Forest chief football officer, Ross Wilson, acknowledged this when he said: “Divock will complement our existing attacking options. We wanted to add more depth to our squad and he certainly helps us achieve that.”
Origi is Forest’s eighth signing of a busy summer transfer window as they look to assemble a squad capable of competing in the top flight. He joins the likes of Jesse Lingard, Emmanuel Dennis and Cheikhou Kouyaté at the City Ground.
The striker could make his debut for Steve Cooper’s side on Saturday when they travel to face Chelsea. Forest have taken three points from their opening three games and will be hoping Origi can provide the extra firepower needed to boost their goal tally while partnering with pacy Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi, who has started the season on fire.
