September 02, (THEWILL) – Jude Bellingham marked the grand opening of Real Madrid’s refurbished Santiago Bernabeu Stadium with a 95th-minute winner, snatching a 2-1 win against Getafe on Saturday afternoon.
Getafe had battled valiantly, devising a specific plan to try and nullify Bellingham only to be undone at the death by Madrid’s new clutch player. Despite Getafe defending resolutely, Bellingham found space in the box to turn home Lucas Vazquez’s spilled shot and spark wild celebrations in the home stands. The Bernabeu erupted as their new hero snatched another dramatic late winner.
The result means Real Madrid make it four wins from four to start the new La Liga season, with Bellingham integral once again. The Englishman has made a flying start to life in the Spanish capital and marked his Bernabeu debut in style.
