April 22, (THEWILL) – Bendel Insurance kept their unbeaten streak going as they beat El Kanemi Warriors 2-1 in a thrilling NPFL match on Saturday, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
After a barren first half, Bendel Insurance took the lead in the 54th minute through Ismael Seriki. Austin Ogunye made it 2-0 two minutes later. Hussaini Mohammed scored a penalty for El Kanemi Warriors in the 69th minute, but it was not enough to prevent Bendel Insurance from claiming another victory after five draws.
The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating chances throughout. Bendel Insurance were the better side in the first half, but they were unable to take their chances. El Kanemi Warriors came out stronger in the second half, but they were undone by two quick goals from the Group A leaders.
The victory keeps Bendel Insurance at the summit of the Group after matchday 15. The Benin Arsenal are on 31 points, seven more than the second-placed Enyimba, who have a game in hand. El Kanemi Warriors remain at the bottom of the standings in 10th place.
The two sides are next in action on Saturday. Gombe United will play against Bendel Insurance while El Kanemi Warriors will face off against Enyimba.
