Benin rep

November 11, (THEWILL) – Les Squirrels of Benin Republic went to the top of their group with a 2-0 win over Madagascar in Cotonou. They now have ten points, two more than DR Congo, who thrashed Tanzania 3-0 in Dar es Salaam earlier in the day.

On Sunday, the two teams will meet in the group’s last match, with Benin needing only a point to advance.

Jodel Dossou shone with a goal and an assist against Madagascar, helping Benin to the top of the group. He put his team up two minutes before halftime.

Steve Mounie scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute for Benin. Dossou picked up the ball on the right before squaring back to Mounie, who accomplished the simple task of side-footing the ball home after a spectacular counter attack.

In Group H, where Senegal has already picked the sole ticket, Namibia and Congo, who were competing only for pride in Group H, drew 1-1 to split the honours. In the first half, Namibia took the lead through Peter Shalulile, before Congo equalised with Guy Mbenza in the second half.
