September 02, (THEWILL) – Andy Murray’s US Open train was stopped in its tracks after the Scot was defeated by Matteo Berrettini in the third round 6-4 6-4 6-7(1) 6-3.
When Murray and Berrettini last faced off, it was in the final of the Stuttgart Open in June where Murray fared worse and lost in the three sets. He might have forced Berrettini into a fourth set at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, but the Italian won again to advance to the fourth round.
In that fourth round, Berrettini will face Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who defeated Daniel Galan Riveros in another matchup that finished in four sets 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-4.
This is the first Grand Slam Berrettini has participated in since the Australian Open due to the very crucial hand surgery he underwent and the process of getting back in shape and favourably competing against top players
