Salvatore Bocchetti

December 23, (THEWILL) – Monza have appointed Salvatore Bocchetti to the position of head coach, with the Italian signing a contract until 2027. The announcement comes following the dismissal of Alessandro Nesta from the role on Monday.

The managerial change occurs during a challenging period for the Serie A outfit, which currently occupies the bottom position in the league table. Under Nesta’s leadership, the team recorded three victories, seven draws, and 10 defeats across all competitions, resulting in an average of 0.80 points per match.

Bocchetti brings limited managerial experience to the position, having previously served in a caretaker capacity at Hellas Verona in 2022. His tenure there resulted in six consecutive defeats, including one against his current employers. However, his subsequent role supporting Marco Zaffaroni proved more successful, contributing to Hellas Verona maintaining their Serie A status in the 2022/2023 campaign.

The immediate challenge facing Bocchetti involves a crucial fixture against Parma this Saturday. The match carries significant importance in the context of the relegation battle, with Parma positioned five points ahead of Monza in the standings.

Following this away fixture, Bocchetti will make his home debut in January 2025 when Monza face Cagliari, another team involved in the battle to retain top-flight status. This encounter represents another vital opportunity to gather points in their campaign for Serie A survival.

The appointment marks a significant shift in direction for Monza, who will be seeking improved results under their new management structure to climb away from their current position at the foot of the Serie A table.
