August 12, (THEWILL) – Victor Boniface made his mark for Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, scoring his first competitive goal for the club in their resounding 8-0 DFB Pokal victory over FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen.
The Nigerian striker netted Leverkusen’s second goal in the 42nd minute after being set up by Álex Grimaldo. It was a memorable attacking display by Leverkusen at the Millerntor-Stadion stadium in Hamburg. Edmond Tapsoba opened the floodgates in the 16th minute before Boniface doubled the lead later in the first half.
Florian Wirtz added a third on the stroke of half-time. The goals kept flowing after the break with Amine Adli converting a penalty, Jeremie Frimpong, Adam Hlozek grabbing a brace and Jonas Hofmann also getting in on the act. For Boniface, it was the perfect way to mark his first competitive appearance since joining Leverkusen from Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise this summer. The 22-year-old topped the Europa League goalscoring charts last season and will be hoping this is just the start of a prolific spell in Germany.
Based on the emphatic scoreline, Leverkusen look poised to enjoy another strong Bundesliga campaign. Boniface’s maiden goal for the club on Saturday will give him the confidence of playing a key role in that process.
