December 02, (THEWILL) – Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United contract is said to include a €10 million (£8.5 million) bonus if he can persuade Borussia Dortmund attacker Erling Haaland to join the Old Trafford outfit.
While he was the global sports director for Red Bull, United’s new temporary manager had an excellent relationship with Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, and was important in the agreement that brought Haaland from Malmo to Salzburg in 2019.
Rangnick’s presence is hoped to help United in their pursuit of Haaland, and according to Bild, there is also a monetary incentive for Rangnick to get a deal done.
If Rangnick can sign Haaland ahead of other bidders like Manchester City and Real Madrid, he will earn a cool £8.5 million.
According to the story, Haaland only signed with Borussia Dortmund in 2020 because Rangnick was not part in the negotiations and was unable to persuade the striker to sign with RB Leipzig instead, something the former director regrets to this day.
United is said to be contemplating a £100 million offer for Haaland at the end of the season.
Given his £63 million release clause, it is probable the sum includes bonuses for agent Mino Raiola and the older Haaland, who will be well compensated regardless of where the striker ends up.
Rangnick is looking forward to putting his Red Bull connections to good use in the coming months. He is said to be considering Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele as a January signing as well.
Amadou Haidara, a 23-year-old midfielder who has been tipped as a replacement for Paul Pogba, is also on Rangnick’s shortlist.
