Jadon Sancho

June 11, (THEWILL)- The drive by English Premier League side Manchester United to effect the transfer of longtime target Jadon Sancho from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund hit another snag on Thursday as the German club rejected United’s opening bid of £67m for their player.

It is a continuation of Dortmund’s determined unwillingness to lower their asking price for the England winger given what they know is Man U’s express desire to bring the Englishman to their EPL outfit.

Their asking price of £77.5m (€90m) for Sancho outstrips United’s opening bid and the Bundesliga club that is also resisting Chelsea’s attempts to buy their sensational Norwegian striker, Erling Haaland, have shown a readiness however to let Sancho go should United meet the price tag.

As THEWILL noted on Thursday, United have agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old, with the expectation being that the England international will be signed on a a five-year deal of about £350,000 a week. What remains is agreeing on a transfer price that both sides will accept.

Sancho, a proper right-sided forward, is going to be part of Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s squad improvement planned out for the United side to make them better contenders for the EPL title next season. They will have to contend with a resolute Dortmund, who are clearly set to have their way again as they did the previous year.

While Sancho prepares with his teammates in the squad of the Three Lions of England ahead of their Euros 2020 competition, the tussle for where he will be playing football next year rages on. Dortmund are also hell-bent on keeping Haaland from a Chelsea snoop. They have a £150m tag on his head and have not hidden their stance of making sure he stays.

The ball is in the court of Old Trafford. They can up their offer and see if Dortmund will be willing to play ball or they can meet the asking price and get the player they want having already agreed terms on a personal level.
