November 03, (THEWILL) – The Brazilian Grand Prix experienced a significant interruption during Sunday’s race following a severe collision involving Williams driver, Franco Colapinto. The incident occurred amid challenging weather conditions at the Interlagos circuit.
The Argentine competitor’s vehicle made contact with the barrier, resulting in substantial damage to the left section of his Williams racing car. While the driver emerged from the wreckage without apparent injury, the incident necessitated his immediate withdrawal from the competition.
Race officials implemented a red flag protocol to facilitate the removal of debris from the track surface. The temporary suspension enabled track marshals to restore safe racing conditions, maintaining Formula One’s stringent safety standards.
At the point of suspension, Alpine driver Esteban Ocon held the lead position, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen occupying second place. Several early race leaders, including McLaren’s Lando Norris, who started from pole position, had completed their initial pit stops prior to the stoppage.
