December 02, (THEWILL) – At Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, Brentford emerged victorious over Luton Town by a 3-1 scoreline. The win was vital for Brentford as they look to build momentum in the middle of the league table.
The first half finished 0-0 after both sides struggled to create many clear-cut chances. Brentford lacked their usual tempo and cohesion in midfield without the injured Mathias Jensen, while Luton were missing key winger Alfie Doughty. Neal Maupay came closest for Brentford towards the end of the half, unleashing a curling shot that narrowly missed the target.
The second half began dramatically when Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo set up Neal Maupay for the opening goal just four minutes after the break. The home side doubled their advantage in the 56th minute as Ben Mee rose highest to head in from a corner.
Although Luton substitute Jacob Brown pulled one back in the 76th minute to make it 2-1, Brentford sealed the three points just five minutes later through midfielder Shandon Baptiste. A series of defensive errors led to Baptiste tapping the ball into an open net.
The win lifts Brentford further away from the relegation zone up to 10th position, while defeating a potential rival in Luton who sit just above the drop zone in 17th. The Bees had injury worries coming into the match and lost defender Kristoffer Ajer in the warm-up, replaced by Saman Ghoddos. Yet, Thomas Frank’s tactical changes at half-time proved decisive as Brentford dominated the second period.
