August 29, (THEWILL) – Nigeria international Frank Onyeka, who starred for newly promoted English Premier League side Brentford in their sensational victory over Arsenal in the season’s opener and followed that up with an impressive draw against Crystal Palace, is now a doubt for the Super Eagles.

The 23-year-old was named in the Gernot Rohr selection as part of the squad sheet to prosecute the country’s qualification matches for the Qatar 2022 World Cup scheduled for September against Liberia and Cape Verde.

However, the central midfielder, who received praises from Thomas Frank, the team manager, for his displays so far after joining the promoted club in July from the Danish club Midtjylland, was left out of the squad that drew against Aston Villa on Saturday, August 28.

The club revealed the reason he was absent with an announcement from the club’s official Twitter handle before the Matchday three fixture at Villa Park while publishing the squad for the game. The announcement simply noted: “Frank Onyeka misses out this afternoon after testing positive for Covid-19.”

As a result, it is now uncertain if Onyeka will feature for the Super Eagles against Liberia’s Lone Stars and Cape Verde’s Blue Sharks. Onyeka will need to self isolate for a period and test negative before he can be reintegrated.
