Georginio Rutter

August 20, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion have signed Leeds United striker, Georginio Rutter, for a reported club-record fee of £40 million. The France Under-21 international has agreed to a five-year contract with the English Premier League club.

Rutter impressed in the Championship last season, scoring eight goals and providing 16 assists for Leeds. He joined Leeds in January 2023 from German side Hoffenheim and played a key role in their campaign, which ended with a play-off final loss to Southampton.

Brighton Head Coach, Fabian Hurzeler, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, noting that he had been aware of Rutter’s talents since his time in Germany. Hurzeler emphasised the need to integrate Rutter into the team and looked forward to working with him.

The 22-year-old forward began his career at Rennes, breaking into their first team in 2020 before moving to Hoffenheim the following year. Despite experiencing relegation with Leeds in 2023, Rutter’s performances in the Championship caught the attention of EPL clubs.

Rutter becomes Brighton’s seventh summer signing, joining the club just days after their impressive 3-0 victory over Everton in their EPL opener. The transfer marks a significant investment for Brighton as they aim to build on their recent successes in the top flight.
