October 07, (THEWILL) – Andy Murray stated that his wedding band “has been stolen” at Indian Wells Masters after he left it attached to his shoes, which he kept outside overnight under a car.
For the first time since 2017, the British player will compete in the prestigious tournament, dubbed the “fifth Grand Slam”, but he has had a harrowing start to the competition after his wedding band went missing.
Murray rushed to Instagram to describe how he had left his shoes under a car his team was using in the California desert overnight to attempt and dry them out after a practise session, only to find them missing, along with his ring.
While training, the 34-year-old often attaches his wedding ring to his laces, and after first believing that replacing his shoes was “not the end of the world” it finally dawned on him what had happened.
“Got a quick story here for you that I need a little bit of help with,” Andy Murray said in an appeal on his Instagram story from Indian Wells. “My physio said to me ‘where’s your wedding ring?’ I was like ‘oh no’. My wedding ring has been stolen as well so needless to say I’m in the bad books at home, so i need to find it.
“Yes I know I’m an idiot and in hindsight it seems like a terrible idea but I need some help… What should the reward be for getting it back?”
Murray has a tough draw in the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he might meet Carlos Alcaraz in the second round and Alexander Zverev in the third.
Murray will play world number 51 Adrian Mannarino in his first encounter on Thursday or Friday, after receiving a wildcard into the ATP Masters 1000 event.
