March 08, (THEWILL) – Club Brugge has announced the sacking of their manager, Scott Parker, after just 67 days in charge.
THEWILL recalls that Parker was appointed on December 31 last year, succeeding Carl Hoefkens, with the team sitting fourth in the league and 12 points off the top of the table. However, in 12 games, Parker was only able to achieve two wins.
A brief statement from the club confirmed the news: “Scott Parker is no longer the head coach of Club Brugge.” Parker had previously worked for Fulham and Bournemouth before joining Club Brugge. Despite the change of manager, the club remained in fourth place, but have since slipped to 21 points behind Genk, who are currently top of the Belgian Pro League.
Parker’s final game in charge was a heavy 5-1 defeat against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday evening in Portugal as THEWILL reported. The result saw Brugge crash out of the competition, leaving them without the chance of any major trophies this season.
Prior to his appointment at Club Brugge, Parker had managed Fulham and had overseen their promotion to the EPL, as well as their subsequent relegation to the Championship. As a player, he spent time at several notable clubs including Chelsea, Newcastle United, West Ham, Tottenham, and Fulham.
