March 12, (THEWILL) – Burkina Faso is looking for a new senior national team coach to help the Stallions chart a new course, as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.
The Federation Burkinabe de Football (FBF), commenced the process of choosing a substantive coach on Friday, by putting out a call for candidates.
The local football governing body has declared that it is looking for a skilled and competent local or foreign coach to fill the position permanently.
This comes after the FBF decided not to renew coach Kamou Malo’s contract, after the team’s participation in the recent TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations between January and February in Cameroon.
Despite taking the Stallions to the semi-finals of the Cameroon tournament, where they were defeated by eventual winners Senegal, the FBF chose not to extend Malo’s contract.
Following the decision on Malo’s future, Oscar Borro, was chosen as temporary coach, and the FBF is now on a mission to find a permanent coach. In a statement on Friday, the FBF made it pubic stating: “The Federation Burkinabe de Football is calling for applications for the recruitment of a national coach for the Senior Stallions.”
The federation outlined the requirements for candidates, stating that anyone interested in the role must have previous experience coaching a national team at the Africa Cup of Nations and be fluent in French. And, during his tenure as coach of the senior national team, the successful applicant must reside continuously in Burkina Faso.
The FBF will accept applications from March 15 to March 31, after which shortlisted candidates will be interviewed and the name of the winning coach will be revealed.
Malo took charge of the squad in 2019 and has been credited with the team’s recent triumphs, notably a strong showing at the AFCON. He formerly coached local team Real Kadiogo, with whom he won the Burkinabe league twice in 2016 and 2017, as well as the FA Cup in 2012 and 2016.
