May 29, (THEWILL) – Newly promoted English Premier League side, Burnley, are reportedly eyeing Nigerian striker, Gift Orban, for a potential summer transfer.

The Clarets have made inquiries about signing the talented young player who has improved the front line of Belgian club, KAA Gent, since joining at the end of January this year. In addition to Orban, Burnley’s attention has also turned to Georges Mikautadze, the Georgia international from Metz, who recently earned the accolade of Player of the Season in Ligue 2.

Vincent Kompany, the renowned former Manchester City player and current manager of Burnley, seems determined to strengthen his squad with Belgian talents. As a former player of Anderlecht himself and a long-serving member of the Belgium national team, Kompany has an extensive knowledge of the local market. And, his eyes are Mikautadze, after his exceptional performances in France’s second division.

Meanwhile, Orban has been making waves in Belgium, showcasing his prowess by scoring an impressive twenty goals in just 21 appearances across all competitions. The young striker has attracted interest from various clubs in Europe’s top leagues, with Lille being particularly keen on securing his signature. Negotiations are currently underway between Lille and Orban’s representatives to explore the possibility of a transfer.

Orban’s contract with Gent is set to expire on June 30, 2027, after the club acquired him from Stabæk in Norway for a fee of €3 million. Notably, Orban achieved the third position in the 2023 Ebony Shoe, an award that Kompany himself won in the 2004/2005 campaign.
