April 11, (THEWILL) – Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany, has been penalised with a two-match touchline suspension following his red card against Chelsea on March 30. The former Manchester City captain will serve a one-game ban immediately, with the other match suspended until the end of the year.
The dismissal of the 38-year-old came after his protest against a penalty decision that led to Lorenz Assignon being sent off. The Belgian manager, later expressed his dissatisfaction with the standard of refereeing in this season’s English Premier League, stating that it “hasn’t been good enough.”
Alongside the touchline ban, Kompany has also been fined £10,000 after admitting the charge of misconduct. Assignon was shown a second yellow card shortly before half-time at Stamford Bridge for fouling Mykhailo Mudryk in the penalty area.
Burnley currently sits in 19th place in the EPL, six points adrift of safety. The team has faced a challenging season, with seven Burnley players receiving red cards in 32 League games, the most of any team in the top flight.
The Clarets will host Brighton and Hove Albion at Turf Moor on Saturday, with Kompany serving a one-game ban during the match.
