August 13, (THEWILL) — In a bid to encourage Bayelsa youths to be their best in their chosen endeavours, the Bayelsa Youths Leadership Awards (BYLA) awarded 28 Bayelsa youths as part of activities to mark the 2025 International Youth Day celebration.
Speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa, the Convener of BYLA, Comrade Moses Atti, said the International Youth Day is a day set aside by the United Nations to celebrate the contributions of youths to the development of the society.
According to him, this informed the reason why Bayelsa youths gathered under the auspices of BYLA to recognise and reward youths from the state who are excelling in their chosen professions, stressing that this will go a long way to spur them to continue to be useful not only to themselves but also to the society as a whole.
Comrade Moses Ati further pointed out that this is done in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, adding that the 2025 award ceremony is the 9th edition, with Bayelsa youths from various parts of the state and also from different fields of human endeavours being recognised and rewarded for their hard work and resilience.
He urged Bayelsa youths to continue to contribute their quota to the growth of the state, reiterating that this can only be done if they shun social vices that are inimical to the overall development of the society.
While calling on those in the helm of affairs and politicians to include the youths in the state’s policies and programmes, he equally asserted that youths should not only be used as political thugs during elections and dumped by politicians.
In his contribution, a member of the state Youth Parliament, Comrade Atekere Jerry who delivered a keynote address at the occasion noted that International Youth Day is always celebrated all over on the world on the 12th of August every year, which is why the Bayelsa youths gathered under the banner of BYLA to join the rest of the world to celebrate the day by giving awards to those that are making the state proud in both within and world at large.
About the convener. Comrade Atti Joshua Moses is a dynamic leader, youth advocate and seasoned student unionist from Ekeremor local government area of Bayelsa state and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from the Niger Delta University, Amassoma, a Post graduate Diploma in Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism and a MSC in Criminology from the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa state.
Currently, he is the chairman of PANDEF, Ekeremor local government area chapter and the convener of two flagship Youth events in Bayelsa state, the annual emerging leaders conference and Bayelsa Youth Leadership Awards, platforms dedicated to inspiring, recognising and empowering young leaders.
He is known for his passion, resilience and commitment to youth development as he continues to be a strong voice for purposeful leadership and Community Development.
