May 01, (THEWILL) – Edinson Cavani of Manchester United, is reportedly in advanced talks to join Boca Juniors on a free transfer this summer.
Cavani had a disappointing 2021/2022 season, with nagging injuries and poor form limiting his impact. In total, he has only made 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring only on two occasions.
This is in stark contrast to his 2020/2021 season, in which he scored 17 goals and finished as United’s starting striker.
Cavani’s playing time this season has been cut short by Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in the summer and this is one of the reasons he has opted to depart this summer.
Before signing Ronaldo, United allegedly informed Cavani that they would not be bringing in another striker at the end of last season. Cavani reportedly turned down many rival offers to stay at Old Trafford.
After appearing to reconsider his decision to stay on that particular occasion, the former PSG player will be leaving in a few months. Boca are presently the favourites to sign him, as they aim to add some star power to their lineup.
They are currently second in Group B of the Argentine Premier Division, but have a long way to go in the Copa Libertadores this season. With only three points after three games, Boca is at the bottom of Group E in that competition.
