June 13, (THEWILL) – Brazilian Football Association (CBF) president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, has expressed his intention to hold discussions with Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, or his representative this week, regarding the possibility of appointing him as the coach of the Brazilian national team.
Although Ancelotti publicly stated his commitment to honour his contract with Real Madrid, Rodrigues has not ruled out the prospect of waiting until July 2024 for his appointment. Speaking to reporters at the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) headquarters in Madrid, Rodrigues stressed the point that the decision would not be solely his to make: “I have to listen and discuss with our board and with the players, because they need to be heard.”
The CBF President harped on the importance of aligning with the players’ thoughts and stated that the objective of hiring Ancelotti remains clear. Rodrigues praised Ancelotti, highlighting his winning mentality and ability to manage a group effectively. He also stated that the Italian coach would be an ideal fit for the majority of players and a highly respected figure among the younger generation.
THEWILL recalls that Rodrigues had previously mentioned in March that Ancelotti would be an obvious choice if he became available after the European season. Since the resignation of Tite after Brazil’s quarter-final exit in the 2022 World Cup, the five-time world champions have been without a coach.
