July 28, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have reached an agreement with UEFA to address issues of “incomplete financial reporting” during the Roman Abramovich era, resulting in a payment of €10 million.

The club’s recent ownership transition, led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, prompted the proactive approach to rectify the financial irregularities, which were identified as instances of partial financial information submitted in historical transactions between 2012 and 2019. This resolution allows Chelsea to move forward under the new ownership group while ensuring compliance with UEFA’s Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play regulations.

The takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital last year marked a significant change in Chelsea’s ownership landscape, following sanctions imposed on former owner Roman Abramovich due to his connections with Russia President, Vladimir Putin.

As part of the settlement, UEFA has agreed to a financial contribution of €10 million, which will fully resolve the reported matters related to the incomplete financial reporting during Abramovich’s tenure. UEFA also confirmed its approach by stating, “The Boehly-led consortium proactively approached us, and after careful assessment, a settlement agreement was reached with the club.”

As a result of the resolution, Chelsea can now focus on the upcoming football season without further consequences, unlike Juventus, who have been banned from competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League this season for their own financial irregularities. The Blues have shown their commitment to addressing the historical financial issues, ensuring transparency and adherence to UEFA’s financial regulations, a crucial aspect in modern football governance.
